John Hillerman, snooty caretaker on "Magnum PI", dies at 84

TMZ reports that John Hillerman, who played Jonathan Quayle Higgins III on Magnum PI, has passed away at the age of 84.

Of his Magnum, P.I. role, Hillerman once said, "It's the best gig I've ever had". Hllerman's nephew, Chris Tritico, said the cause of death is not known.

Higgins was the landlord for Tom Selleck's private investigator Thomas Magnum.

There was some sad news announced on Thursday as media outlets in the United States confirmed that the veteran actor John Hillerman has sadly passed away.

Hillerman also was known for his 1970s roles as arrogant radio show detective Simon Brimmer on the "Ellery Queen" series, and as a hard boss on "One Day at a Time".

"Magnum, P.I." co-star Larry Manetti led the Hillerman tributes on social media.

The actor was last seen on screen playing a doctor in 1996 comedy A Very Brady Sequel.

Hillerman's survivors include a sister, Jo Ann Tritico, and seven nieces and nephews including Chris Tritico, a Houston attorney.
