The 2017 Red Kettle Campaign officially started Friday, Nov. 10 at noon with the season's first Christmas bell ring at the Knapp's Crossing D&W Fresh Market in Grand Rapids.

Last year, the six-week Red Kettle Campaign raised $640,000 across the organization's six-county service area. Each year legions of bell-ringers stand outside stores and other locations to solicit donations for the organization.

Salvation Army Capt. Chris Bryant said the local chapter derives about 20 percent of its yearly revenue from the red kettle campaign.

The Salvation Army is one of several prominent charities canceling planned events at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. This year the goal is $125,000.

"Our shelter, our soup kitchen, our CSRC which is a nine month residential rehab for men those programs this money helps to fund programs of that nature", said Scavullo.

The actress starred as Madeline Martha Mackenzie in the hit show and co-produced alongside fellow Oscar victor Nicole Kidman. While there isn't a title for the new project yet, or a script, Apple went ahead and gave the show a two-season order.

Each angel has the name and a few details about a child.

The Salvation Army says almost 3,000 children will be helped this year in the annual Salvation Army Angel Tree program.

The annual effort helps provide parents with the comfort that their children will be getting gifts so they can concentrate on their families' day-to-day needs without fretting about whether anything will be under the tree at home, Ragner said.

Families can take an angel off the tree and buy gifts for them for Christmas, which can be dropped off at an Angel Tree drop-off location by December 1st.
