  • LiAngelo Ball, 2 UCLA teammates remain in China as team heads home

President Donald Trump is getting involved in the case of the three UCLA basketball players arrested for allegedly shoplifting in China.

Trump brought attention to the legal matter to Xi during his two-day stay in Beijing.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed in an email to the newspaper that Trump raised the issue with Xi. Trump will claim that China has agreed to remove barriers to the American financial sector in the Chinese market; but Xi's promises aren't ironclad.

UCLA returned to the United States on Saturday without the three freshmen, sources told Markazi. Xi said he wanted to be sure that the three UCLA players are to be treated fairly and expeditiously, as said by a USA official who spoke anonymously because of the sensitivity of the situation. The athletes were unable to play in the game, and they remain in China awaiting their fate while the rest of their team returned to the US days ago.

Several experts in Chinese law said charges and accompanying punishment will dependent on the value of the stolen goods.

Trump will return home and say the trip was a huge success, while Xi will believe the home field advantage really works. Neither made any mention of the UCLA players' arrests.

Ball, the second son of outspoken and high-profile sports dad, LaVar Ball, is set to begin his freshman season at UCLA. As he was leaving the hotel, LaVar Ball downplayed LiAngelo's arrest, telling ESPN: "He'll be fine. It ain't that big of a deal". Reportedly, the Ball family will open a pop-up store in Hong Kong on Tuesday (Nov. 14).
