  • Marseille players tried but failed to separate Evra from the fans as he sneaked a way through

Ahead of the Europa League tie with Vitoria Guimaraes, Evra got into an argument with a travelling fan before a kick was aimed at the supporter's head.

Marseille have announced that they have sacked Patrice Evra for kicking a club supporter last week.

Shortly before Marseille confirmed the club had terminated Evra's contract, it was confirmed the player had been handed a seven-month ban from Uefa competitions, as well as a €10,000 fine.

Marseille players were going through their paces in a warm-up before the meeting with Vitoria Guimaraes when a group of fans in the stand behind the goal approached, with the incident then spiralling out of control. He played an important role in reviving the team and in the improvement of results.

Explosion rips through oil pipeline in Bahrain causing massive blaze
Independent news gathering there has grown more hard , with the government refusing to accredit two AP reporters and others. Fire crews later successfully extinguished the blaze on the pipeline, which belongs to the state-run Bahrain Petroleum Co.

Now a free agent, Evra is in search for a new club to go, and since he can not aim at top-class outfits, Newcastle United fans have now started urging the Frenchman to join them.

Club president Jacques-Henri Eyraud added: "Today, there is sadness".

Marseille's American owner Frank McCourt had described Evra's behaviour as "unacceptable" and "not something that we can tolerate", while fans held up a giant banner before last Sunday's game against Caen saying: "We don't want you in our colours anymore".
