The Left also blames the BJP and the RSS of a series of political murders and violent attacks on its supporters. A strike is being observed by the saffron party in Guruvayoor and Manaloor in Thrissur district.

Infuriated with the recent killings, the state's BJP and RSS workers have called for a complete shutdown on Monday in Guruvayur. Speaking about the incident, State BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan said, "The latest killing again exposed the criminal face of the CPI (M)". The political killings involving the CPM and the BJP-RSS workers have dominated political discourse in the state since the CPM-led Left Democratic Front government assumed office in May past year.

The CPM has, in turn, accused the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of resorting to violence and denied the involvement of its government and leadership in the killings. "The Government should urgent steps to arrest the culprits and ensure that such incidents do not recur". The BJP has alleged that as many as 120 of its workers, 84 in Kannur alone, have been killed in Kerala since 2001.

Gopalakrishnan accused Sadanandan, secretary of the CPI (M)'s local committee in Brahmakulam near Guruvayur, of having direct link with the murder. We had lodged complaints with the police a few times on this. The attackers later abandoned the vehicle and fled in a bike, police said.

"We know that a brother of Fasil (Marxist youth murdered in 2014) had been regularly following Anand in vehicle".

Kerala has a long history of political violence. The ABVP had held a "Kerala Chalo" Maha rally in Thiruvananthapuram with the slogan "Marxism is Terror" on Saturday.
