  • Seven-year-old Pradyuman was found with his throat slit in the washroom of the school on September 8

Sources say there is reason to believe the teen was a suspect in the Pradyuman murder case even before Gurgaon police handed over the case to the CBI on September 22.

The father of the minor spoke to India Today and alleged that the CBI tortured his son and that they were not allowed to meet their son before he was detained.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has told the Juvenile Justice Board that the teenager apprehended for the murder of seven-year-old fellow schoolmate was identified on the basis of reconstruction of sequence of events, analysis of CCTV footage, and questioning of students, teachers and staff.

At least one part of the video shows the older student exiting the washroom, followed by Pradyuman, who is by then holding his throat, which had been slit at that point.

The CBI official told TOI that the 16-year-old accused had confessed before his father, an independent witness and the welfare officer of the CBI. "Now, the court will decide", a CBI spokesperson said.

In the case built by the local police, Kumar had taken the knife from the toolkit of the school bus and carried it with him to the washroom of the Ryan International School in Gurugram, where Thakur was murdered in September.

How is it that both the suspects have neat confessions as per the agency that's arrested them?

The CBI is also probing the weapon used in the crime. How's it that Haryana Police did what it did, produced a fake suspect in a hurry to seem to have cracked this macabre case of a brutal child murder?

Is it easier to blame the poor because they fit a certain stereotype and are essentially outsiders to India's story of privatised education and its compromised non-inclusive development? This led to widespread protests across the country, with questions raised about the security of students in schools.

Following these revelations, the Haryana Police is accused of ruining the life of bus conductor Ashok Kumar.

The Class XI student, who was apprehended late last night, allegedly committed the crime as he wanted to get a scheduled parent teacher meeting and an examination postponed, a CBI spokesperson said. Parents were also called for every questioning. However, the CBI has apprehended this class XIth student and the reasons given by them justify it. "During our through investigation, we did not find any clue that would point at him being the killer", a CBI source said. "We have more faith in the CBI findings as the agency consulted us throughout".

This needs to stop now, and the guilty parties here - Ryan International School, Haryana Police, Indian education system - must pay up.
