  • Salvation Army rings in fundraising effort in Lubbock

Today in the United States, the Salvation Army is able to assist more than 4.5 million people during these holidays, thanks to contributions raised through the familiar Red Kettles.

This year's fundraising goal for the kettle campaign will be $140,000.

"That food bank is basically run on public generosity - donations, food drives", he said.

"Out of concerns that people are moving towards a cashless society we've actually started a red kettle kick off event November 1st", explained Major Bob Lloyd with the Salvation Army.

Registrations for hampers will accepted until December 1 at the Low Income People Involvement of Nipissing (LIPI) office on Main Street in North Bay.

"We see from very young children to the elderly, families to singles".

It's easy to follow a team that is winning, but they've backed us. "If that's with the U23s, brilliant". I really don't know". "What will be, will be".

Christmas, he said, is a time of sharing and giving back.

Area shoppers will hear the familiar sound of bells ringing at many local stores as volunteers with the Brooke and Weirton Salvation Army seek donations to aid a growing number of local residents in need. "We believe in sharing", Doria said.

The campaign is heavily reliant on volunteers.

Hundreds of Fremont residents will donate their time ringing bells and collecting money for the Salvation Army this holiday season and people are urged to volunteer for an hour-long time slot by calling the Salvation Army at 402-721-0930, or by visiting www.ringbells.com.

For Berryville Mayor Patricia Dickinson, the sight of a bell ringer makes her think of Christmas and helping her neighbors. We have groups like the Kiwanis, and the Lion's hosting a day.

Businesses are invited to support the 2017 Red Kettle Campaign with a Countertop Red Kettle at their workplace. It's not a big commitment. "We would love to have, on every Friday and Saturday at least, all 22 kettles manned, or on Saturday and Sundays".
