The 81-year-old king will remain as a ceremonial figurehead, while the official leadership would be handed over to Prince Mohammad, according to the royal sources of Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, Saudi media has yet to confirm or deny these reports.

The crown prince, commonly referred to by his initials "MBS", is just 32 years old and already holds numerous posts in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is now experiencing a period of dramatic change spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammad, who is seen as the driving force behind the kingdom's ambitious economic and social plans.
