The "Most Downvoted Comment on Reddit" Award Goes to… EA

EA and DICE are confronting mounting fury over their questionable decisions regarding Star Wars Battlefront II, including locking iconic heroes behind impossibly high paywalls.

Regardless of all the controversy now surrounding the game's microtransaction situation, a Star Wars campaign only comes along every so often, and I'm still looking forward to it. Stay tuned to TL;DR Games to find out what we end up thinking of Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

"The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes", the EA rep wrote on Reddit. The upcoming release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 should be exciting, as it has fixed the complaints of the past, but that isn't the case at all.

Specifically, Wasilczyk said DICE is aware of the feedback that it takes too long to unlock heroes like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Now, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will cost 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa will run 10,000 credits; and Iden will be 5,000 credits. In EA's last Battlefront game, back in 2015, there was no unlock criteria for heroes - though there was the small issue of a season pass, with a large number of characters reserved for those who'd ponied up the extra amount. But that's when you see it: almost every beloved character from the Star Wars movies are locked, entirely unplayable despite you having shelled out $60 or more for the game.

According to the post, the change will become effective immediately with an update that is being loaded into the Play First Trial and into the full game when it is launched later this week. This comes after players calculated it would take somewhere between 40 and 80 hours of playtime or $80 to unlock the top-tier characters like Darth Vader in the shooter's online multiplayer. Reddit user TheHotter Potato, who's played the open beta, claims it takes over 2,300 minutes of online play just to unlock one hero.

UK Parliament To Vote On Final Brexit Bill
The government's hope is that a deal can be reached by next autumn, which would then be put before Parliament ahead of Brexit . The government has also proposed its own amendment to the legislation - one that opponents say tie its hands in the talks.

The model that EA appears to be using for Battlefront II is reminiscient of those used for free-to-play games.

Battlefront II has been criticized for EA's money-grabbing method of microtransactions but they've adjusted the loot system following fan backlash. While this may help gamers to make up their mind about the game, personally I'm most interested in the game's campaign.

What do you make of all this change?
