Tottenham aim to win Champions League group with victory at Dortmund

  • Mustafi preserves his side’s clean sheet as he throws himself in front of a shot from Kane

Heung-Min Son has insisted that everyone has been underestimating Tottenham Hotspur's strength in the Champions League, following his side's 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

But the north Londoners roared back in the second half, completing a superb turnaround thanks to goals from Kane and Son Heung-min.

In Dortmund's two group stage matches against Tottenham Toljan was presented with an opportunity to show Mauricio Pochettino's side that they missed out by not signing him.

In fact, Kane has scored four of Tottenham's last five goals away from home in the Champions League, with the fifth an own goal by Raphael Varane in the 1-1 draw at Real Madrid on October 17.

Tottenham came close to finding an equaliser a few minutes before the break when Christian Eriksen saw a close-range effort saved by Roman Burki, who then tipped away an Eric Dier header a few moments later.

Just as the pace of the game seemed to be slowing, Alli's persistence down the left flank paid off and he forced his way into the box before knocking the ball to Son, who unleashed a right-footed shot into the top corner of the net. In their last match against Spurs in September, Dortmund was defeated 3-1 in London.

- In contrast, Dortmund have picked up just two points after five Champions League group stage games, their worst ever points tally at this stage.

Dortmund took the lead shortly after the half hour mark when a sweeping counter-attack ended with Aubameyang firing low past Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris following a clever backheeled flick by Andriy Yarmolenko.

He shimmied past two defenders and his neat ball to Heung-Min Son gave the South Korean the space he needed to curl a attractive effort in from distance.
