  • US internet giant Amazon has finally gone live in Australia

US Retail giant Amazon has launched its Australian website - but Australian shoppers have so far been underwhelmed.

In addition to local brands, Lego, L'Oreal, Calvin Klein, Nikon, Disney, Wrangler, Coach, Puma, Roxy, Nike are all featured on the Australian marketplace, which spans over 23 categories, including books, computers, music, clothing, accessories, home improvement, consumer electronics, kitchen goods and baby products.

The company is offering free delivery on orders over $49 with a one-day delivery service also available in a number of areas across Australia. Globally, approximately 50% of Amazon's total units come from Marketplace sellers. The much-vaunted Prime service - which bundles offerings like priority shipping, streaming and Kindle content in one package - is not now available, with expectations it'll come in mid-2018.

Currently Amazon Australia employs around 1000 people in its Dandenong South warehouse and corporate offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra.

Tyrod Taylor carted to locker room with knee injury
His impact on the field has been huge as the Bills look for their first playoff berth since 1999. Taylor replaced Peterman in the second half of that game.

While Amazon's launch is likely to shake up the retail environment, the fact that it has just one distribution centre for the entire country means, at first, the service will not be almost as comprehensive as the United States or UK version.

Australian customers can now shop on amazon.com.au or using the Amazon shopping app which is available from Google Play. Customers can also track orders, contact customer service, read product reviews, or simply browse the growing selection at the time and place that suits them best.

Although the catalogue at the moment seems limited, Amazon Australia's county manager, Rocco Braeuniger, has said that "millions" of products from Aussie retailers will be sold on the digital platform, with a long-term commitment being made to the Australian economy.

The site will also give users access to Prime Video, Amazon's answer to Netflix. Both benefits are available for an introductory price of $2.99 Dollars per month. "The result will be an ever-improving customer experience driven by the regular introduction of new products and services that we hope customers will love", Braeuniger added.
