Sens. Claire McCaskill, Kamala Harris, Maggie Hassan, Kirsten Gillibrand, Patty Murray, Mazie Hirano, Tammy Baldwin, Bob Casey, Joe Donnelly and Sherrod Brown each said Franken should resign. The woman, a former Democratic congressional aide, said that Franken attempted to forcibly kiss her after after a taping of his radio show in 2006, three years before he became a senator.

Franken has said he is "ashamed" by the allegations, but has not admitted to knowingly behaving badly, and apologized to the women who have felt disrespected by his behavior.

The woman, who spoke to Politico, claims the Minnesota Democrat pursued her after her boss had left and she was collecting her things.

"As the mother of two young boys, we owe it to our sons and daughters to not equivocate, but to offer clarity", Gillibrand wrote. John Conyers (D-Mich.) exited this week in the wake of multiple sexual harassment allegations. None of it is ok and none of it should be tolerated.

"As elected officials we should be held to the highest standards, not the lowest", Mr. "While he's entitled to an Ethics Committee hearing, I believe he should step aside to let someone else serve".

At a press Wednesday press conference attended by Gillibrand as well as Republican Sen.

Al Franken, who has been accused of groping and forcibly kissing a number of women.

One irony: While Franken might be departing, Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore might be arriving, if he prevails in a December 12 special election.

In recent days, the Democratic women senators had spoken privately among themselves about the situation, agreeing that they could not tolerate Franken's presence as allegations continued trickling out. But that can not excuse his behavior and his mistreatment of women. "I consider Senator Franken to be a friend and have enjoyed working with him in the Senate in our shared fight to help American families". It's time those women be believed just like the women that are coming out against Sen.

The flurry of statements came at a pivotal moment in the country and the Congress. "The way we treat women in our country has been abysmal in nearly every way". Another woman's account of a similar incident was published later Wednesday. "Everyone must share the responsibility of building a culture of trust and respect for women in every industry and workplace, and that includes our party".
