Facebook introduces Messenger Kids app with parental controls

  • Facebook Down All services including FB messenger down for many users

It launched Monday in the USA, initially on Apple devices.

Davis named some reasons Facebook made a decision to create Messenger Kids and why they chose to create it right now.

You won't be able to add people directly, this can only be done by the parent or guardian who has set up the profile. "As children increasingly have access to tablets and smartphones at younger ages, parents shouldn't have to choose between giving kids access to no internet and the whole internet". From there, kids can dive instantly into a video chat or text thread with their contacts. Having said that, Facebook has also added features like masks, emojis, sound effects, GIFs, frames and more to the app to make the experience fun for the kids. The new app, Messenger Kids, enables Facebook to target parents whose kids are still too young to use world's largest social network (which requires users to be at least 13 years old).

Messenger Kids isn't Facebook's first attempt to attract a young audience. "We want to create technologies that benefit, rather than harm or are merely neutral on the lives of children". It will be linked to an adults' Facebook account.

The messages sent by the kids from the Messenger Kids app will be received by the recipients through the regular Messenger app.

Facebook won't be directly monetizing Messenger Kids, automatically migrating kids to real accounts when they turn 13 or collecting data so that it complies with Children's Online Privacy Protections Act (COPPA) law. " said Loren Cheng, Product Management Director, Facebook".

According to TechCrunch, Facebook will not be directly monetizing the kids app, but hopes they will become dedicated Facebook users in the future. Messenger Kids represents a safe environment for children while expanding Facebook's reach.

Rapper and retiree meet after bonding over Words with Friends
On Friday, Spencer and Pastor Butler traveled more than 1,000 miles to Florida, so Spencer could finally meet Roz in person. Yet the two became unlikely friends as they continued to play Words with Friends matches against one another.

Facebook, however, is also a company focused on marketing and studying user habits.

The other tool of the Facebook has released in the past, goal and real-world use do not always match up. It is this demographic causing them the most headaches right now.

This is why Facebook as well many other social media companies forbid and prohibited the younger kids from joining. The rules for traditional Facebook services will not change.

Now finish the setup process by creating an account for your child, where all you'll need to do is provide their name. Six-year-olds should be playing with worms, not getting FOMO.

"This app could put pressure on parents to introduce social media earlier to children who may not have developed the emotional resilience to cope with engaging with others online".

There is tentative support for what Facebook is doing.
