The video sharing platform has also added a new feature that allows YouTube users to view Community posts by a particular content creator in their Home feed even if they have not subscribed to that creator. Reels are now being tested among a small group of the company's creators and the video-streaming platform has not yet revealed when this new feature will be rolled out to the public. The new addition will allow creators to upload clips in a "stories" format, which has gotten quite popular with apps like Snapchat and Instagram. However, YouTube may start pushing Reels in your main tab if its detects user viewing Reels more often.
YouTube did not say when Reels will arrive in beta, how long until it's publicly available, or which creators will receive the format first.
The company told the technology news portal that Reels aims to let YouTubers express themselves and engage with fans without having to post a full video.
The new feature is called "Reels," and will allow creators to take advantage of a dedicated tab inside their channel's page to put stacks of 30-second clips there to share with their audience.
Unlike stories found on other apps, these Reels don't expire, so your fans will be able to access them whenever they'd like. This means that creators will be able to add media on their videos like text, images, animated GIFs, music, and also "YouTube-y stickers". Talking an example, a YouTuber can create a post video Reels to a folder from an all-day event. Creators can also turn to the Community tab to tease subscribers about an upcoming video so that they might build additional excitement for their offerings.
Reels are being tested among a small group of the YouTube video creators. There, channel owners can interact with and update fans with text, photos, polls, and other non-video posts. However, this doesn't assure that notifications for every Community post will be received.
