Net neutrality protests coming to a Verizon store near you today

Approximately 20 protestors were outside the Verizon Store on Mangrove in Chico Thursday morning in advance of next week's vote by the Federal Communications Commission to repeal its net neutrality regime.
Net neutrality means Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites.
Verizon and Comcast lobbyists are pressing to kill Net Neutrality. These net neutrality rules were passed in 2015, and have broad support from groups ranging from civil liberty organizations to internet giants like Google.
Net neutrality refers to the concept of internet service providers, or ISPs, treating all internet traffic equally.
"We're just concerned about the corporations taking over the internet", said Sue Bolesh when asked what brought her out to protest.
Opponents of net neutrality noted that its elimination has benefits including giving consumers of the Internet more options, allowing them to pare down their choices and perhaps save money in the process.
The biggest protest in the nation was at the Verizon store on 42nd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. So, [our protest] is two-fold.
A district sales manager at Russell Cellular Verizon declined to comment, or to give his name.
Nine people were arrested in Covington, one in Erlanger, six in Florence, four in Newport and two in Walton, officials said. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, said 21 of the 27 taken into custody had previous criminal convictions.
