If Kellogg's really wanted to prey on nostalgia, they'd force kids to dig to the bottom of the box for a cellophane-wrapped mini Amiibo figure, but this is still pretty clever.
In September this year, Nintendoannounced a partnership with Post to put Mario branding on cereals like Honey Bunches of Oats, Honeycomb, Golden Crisp, and more. The cereal, which is the product of a team up between Kellogg's and Nintendo, seems to be a promotional item for Super Mario Odyssey. The box, available beginning December 11, is a "limited-edition" amiibo that can be scanned like any other amiibo for bonuses in Super Mario Odyssey. We are always looking for new opportunities to bring smiles to people of all ages, and this is a fun way to kick off the day.. The back of the box will feature a Mario maze made out of the classic Mario pipes and interspersed with Super Mario trivia questions. Available in the United States only, the mixed-berry flavor and "power-up mushrooms" aren't its only novelty - each box doubles as a functioning amiibo for Super Mario Odyssey, too.
We are thrilled to pack so much fun into one box of cereal, said Brad Schwan, Senior Director of Morning Foods Marketing. Rumors of the Super Mario cereal first circulated when cereal blog (yep, there are cereal blogs) posted about it on Monday, but now we know for sure-it's a real thing that we'll be able to actually buy.
