Rep. Al Green to Force Trump Impeachment Vote on Wednesday

Rep. Al Green introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.

Forcing a vote on impeachment before investigators complete their work, Democratic leaders say, may undermine the potential for a bipartisan effort over impeachment if inquiries uncovered compelling evidence against Trump.

The impeachment resolution Green circulated Tuesday does not include any allegations of obstruction of justice or other alleged crimes connected to his 2016 presidential campaign or the pending investigations into connections to Russian Federation. "Right now, Congressional committees continue to be deeply engaged in investigations into the President's actions both before and after his inauguration", House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer said in a joint statement.

All in all, it was a politically inept decision on Green's part. Democratic leaders announced beforehand they were opposed to Green's resolution.

Green's new eight-page resolution accuses the Republican president of "high misdemeanors", citing "harm to American society to the manifest injury of the people of the United States".

Kepler Cheuvreux said the pending tax and accounting investigations "could show severe irregularities". Steinhoff stock closed down 63 percent in Frankfurt, while its bonds also sold off sharply.

"I love my country", Representative Al Green of Texas said in a memo to colleagues Tuesday, before adding he meant to bring articles of impeachment against a president who was "unmindful of the high duties of his high office and the dignity and properties thereof". Only 58 Democrats supported the proposal while the others believed that it was a distraction in a Republican-controlled Congress.

The House has to approve the articles of impeachment by a simple majority before they would move on to the Senate.

The most likely result, however, is that House Speaker Paul Ryan will bring up a vote on a "motion to table" Green's impeachment resolution Wednesday - essentially killing it. Instead, he argues that Trump has "brought disrepute, contempt, ridicule and disgrace on the presidency" and "sown discord among the people of the United States".

Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee of MI says Democratic lawmakers can't let themselves be drawn into a process "that's not thoughtful or complete or might not even be the conclusion we ought to draw".
