  • 'Today' ratings soar in aftermath of Matt Lauer firing

"And, I am heartbroken for the courageous colleague who came forward with her story and any women who have their own stories to tell", Guthrie said at the time.

The show on Comcast Corp's NBC pulled in an average of 4.9 million viewers for the week, well above its typical audience of 4.1 million, and beat rival "Good Morning America" on Walt Disney Co's ABC network. In the prior week, "GMA" won just 110,000 more viewers than "Today".

On Wednesday, the morning after Lauer was sacked, 5.742 million viewers turned in to Today, the most since the 2012 London Olympics.

Matt Lauer's exit from the Today show has coincided with a ratings boost for the morning news program. Viewers were first to see troubled reactions to the news by Lauer's longtime colleagues Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker.

The conference began with women placing 14 white roses on a table before a photo of the victims of the Montreal massacre. Approximately every six days, a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner.

In the days since embattled TV journalist Matt Lauer was sacked from his top post at NBC News, the network's "Today" show has dominated. On Monday and Tuesday, "Today" attracted greater overall viewership than its ABC competitor, as well as more of the viewers whom advertisers in news programs care about - people between 25 and 54.

GMA was right behind with 4.4 million and 1.4 in the demo, and CBS This Morning came in third at 3.5 million and 900,000. The "Today" show also reported on Thursday that at least two more women have gone to NBC with similar complaints against Lauer. The difference? A mere 59,000 viewers.

Lauer was sacked last week after an accusation of sexual harassment. Ad buyers told Variety they're not expecting any notable ratings fluctuations once Lauer's replacement anchor has been selected.

Worldwide President Jeff Zucker denies knowing anything about former NBC host Matt Lauer's sexual escapades while he was at the network, but jokes Zucker made publicly tell a completely different story. Kotb has been working alongside Guthrie since Lauer's ouster was announced.
