Infosys, the country's leading IT company, has appointed Salil Parekh as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director. The announcement was made on Saturday. "He has almost three decades of global experience in the IT services industry", said co-founder and Board Chairman Nandan Nilekani in the statement. "He has a strong track record of executing business turnarounds and managing very successful acquisitions", said Nandan Nilekani, chairman of the board in a statement.
His exit and the prolonged public row led to a reshuffling of the Infosys' board with Nandan Nilekani, a co-founder and former CEO, returning as non-executive chairman.
"We are delighted to have Salil joining as the CEO & MD of Infosys. With his strong track record and extensive experience, we believe, we have the right person to lead Infosys", Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, chairperson of the nomination& remuneration committee, said.
The appointment of Parekh, who was a top executive at global IT services giant Capgemini prior to his latest assignment, marks the second successive time that Infosys has chosen a rank outsider to helm the company, after being run by its founders for the better part of its first three decades of existence.
1- Parekh has a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) which he completed in 1986.
Capgemini is a global consulting, technology and IT outsourcing firm headquartered in Paris.
Parekh had joined Capgemini in 2000 as a result of the acquisition of the consulting division of Ernst and Young and occupied various leadership positions in the company.
I am happy Infosys has appointed Salil Parekh as CEO.
Salil has a great eye for detail, and is a good conversation holder on digital, cloud and the IT modernisation story, said Gogia.
The full-time CEO post at Infosys have been vacant since the time Vishal Sikka resigned, that is, on August 18, as he could not continue to work under "malicious personal attacks".
He had been associated with Capgemini Parekh for over 25 years now.
Paul Hermelin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Capgemini Group said: "I would like to thank Salil for his involvement in the Capgemini journey".
"As India remains the heart of IT and Business Process Management service delivery, Sen said Parekh's grooming in India would be an advantage to establish the right "face to the Infosys brand" in addition to his experience of working across global cultures".
"The Board is also grateful to Pravin Rao for his leadership during this period of transition", added Nilekani in the statement.
