  • Heather Mosher married her husband David a few days before Christmas at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford Connecticut before dying on December 23

She tragically passed away just 18 hours later at St Francis Hospital in Connecticut, US, on December 22.

David and Heather Mosher celebrate after exchanging vows December 23 in the chapel at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Conn.

David on December 23, 2015, planned on proposing to his love, but before he could Lindsay was handed a surprising diagnosis - a lump in her breast doctors had previously dismissed was cancerous.

"It was just like surreal because I'm supposed to be exchanging vows to her and here I am saying goodbye", he told ABC News. "She struggled with her cancer through the traditional chemotherapy".

Heather and David met at a swing class in May 2015 and quickly became inseparable, with David planning to propose in December 2016.

But the love story of the couple took an unpleasant turn on December 23, 2016 when Lindsay was diagnosed with breast cancer.

David said: 'She didn't know I was going to propose that night, but I said to myself, she needs to know she's not going to go down this road alone.

'A pair of draft horses, a carriage, and I arranged it all for that night.

"I went down on one knee she said "yes", Mosher said. And there they both learned the shocking news: the girl was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.

By the fall of 2017, Heather's cancer had spread.

"We found out it was in her brain and a couple months later, she was on life support with a breathing tube", David said.

Eighteen hours later, Lindsay died.

"She was tough. Anyone else would have given up a long time ago", Mosher said.

Bridesmaid Christina Karas managed to capture the moment just after Heather and David Mosher said "I do" and the image has since gone viral.

Heather Mosher's friend, Christina Karas, was one of her bridesmaids.

So, the couple set a date for December 30., but as the date neared, doctors at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford explained that Lindsay would probably not make it until then.

"It was more like a funeral than a wedding to be honest".

"This has been a heartbreaking time, but I'm glad this story has brought hope to so many people, " Karas said.

But Heather made it into her gown and to the hospital's chapel where she exchanged vows with Dave in front of her family and friends.

It was a wedding filled with equal amounts of joy and sorrow.

"We were losing her as we were all standing there, thinking, to hold onto this, because this was the last she had to give", Karas said. "When you're with your great's like trying to separate your arm from your body, you can't do it".

"It reminds me of someone who is crossing the finish line of a marathon or something", David Mosher said of the photo. Although the news was heartbreaking, he decided to make the best of his time left with her. "She was able to fight till the end, I'm going to fight until my end".

Lindsay was buried on December 30, the day she was originally meant to be Wednesday.

Heather's dream of being David's wife only lasted 18 hours before she sadly died, WFSB reports.
