The weather department has confirmed that the temperature at New Delhi was recorded at 6.4 degree Celsius on Sunday morning - a bit below the average temperature of the season. While 21 trains were cancelled and 64 delayed besides 24 rescheduled due to heavy fog in several parts of northern India. A large number of flights and trains were delayed. "This is so far the worst fog we have experienced this year". As of last updating this report, there were no cancellations though as many as 20 flights had been delayed. The maximum temperature was likely to hover around 23 degrees Celsius.

Landing of nearly all flights were delayed, an airport official said. All flights to and from the national capital are on standby and no operations are active as of now due to low visibility, news agency ANI reported.

Departures require a visibility of at least 125 metres, while planes can land in visibility below 50 metres if the pilots are trained in CAT IIIB, a system of advanced technology for low-visibility landings that allows aircraft qualified to land in visibility of 25-50 metres.

Visibility improved to 2,000 metres later in the day and operations were restored to normal.
