Palestinians from various villages in the occupied West Bank who gathered in Nabi Saleh to demand the release of prominent teen activist Ahed Tamini, 16, and her mother were chased by Israeli forces who used teargas to disperse the crowd.

The demonstrators slammed also the US President Donald Trump's move last month to recognize (al-Quds) Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The protesters were rallying in solidarity with 16-year-old Ahed Tamimi who was arrested by Israel for allegedly attacking soldiers.

"During the unrest [at the border with the Gaza Strip] servicemen selectively resorted to firearms against three main inciters, who posed a threat to soldiers and border facilities", the Armed Forces said.

Germany late Friday expressed concern over Israel's approval of thousands of new housing units for Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank.

Palestinians held protests - as they have done each Friday since Trump's announcement in December - near border areas in the Gaza Strip, including in Rafah, Khan Younis, Gaza City, al-Bireh, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Qalqilyah, Jericho, Nabuls, Hebron and the al-Boreij refugee camp.

"The EU calls on Israeli authorities to respond proportionately to protests, and open investigations following fatalities, in particular when involving a minor".

Palestinians and rights groups have criticized Israel for using excessive force against Palestinian protesters.

The Israeli defence ministry claimed that past year the PA paid more than 550 million shekels ($160 million) to Palestinian prisoners, freed prisoners and their families, as well as 687 million shekels ($190 million) to the families of Palestinians killed or wounded by Israel.
