  • Alleged Perpetrator of Call of Duty WWII'Swatting Death Indicted for Involuntary Manslaughter

Barriss is expected to make a first appearance this afternoon at 2:30 in Sedgwick County District Court.

The Los Angeles Police Department was investigating Barriss on allegations that he made similar calls in late 2017, and had planned a meeting with federal prosecutors before arresting the 25-year-old in connection with the Kansas incident.

A Los Angeles man accused in a hoax that led to Kansas police shooting a man last month has also been charged by Calgary police. The Sedgwick County Jail shows he's booked on a warrant for involuntary manslaughter, giving a false alarm and interference with a law enforcement officer.

The booking report shows Barriss was booked into jail at 3:14 p.m.

Prosecutors allege Barriss was in Los Angeles when he called police on December 28 with a fake story about a shooting and kidnapping at a home in Wichita, Kansas. He then gave them an address for 28-year-old Andrew Finch, who was shot and killed by an officer when he answered the door. Police have said he moved a hand toward his waistband and an officer, fearing he was reaching for a gun, fired a single shot and killed him. But causing a false alarm is not among the "inherently risky felonies" listed under the state's felony-murder statute, so prosecutors sought the manslaughter charge instead, Bennett said during a phone interview.

Bennett could not immediately say why Finch's address became the target of the hoax call. Finch appears to have no connection to the game or the dispute arising from it.

It wasn't known that week what charges Barriss could face in Kansas. The woman involved in the Calgary incident reportedly told police that Barriss targeted her because of her online presence, according to Rolling Stone.

Police say a man called 911 on December 22 claiming he had shot his father and was holding his mom and younger brother hostage.
