England worldwide Hart was tested by Shaun Whalley and Mat Sadler, while the Premier League side mustered just four attempts at goal - only two on target - at the New Meadow.

Hart, who started his career at Shrewsbury, was made captain on his return, and was mobbed by Shrews fans after the final whistle. Shrewsbury are doing very well in their league and had a lot of momentum themselves so I think it was always going to be a tough game. We weren't great and they played well. I should be surprised but I wasn't.

Cullen was at the receiving end of a boot to the face from Abu Ogogo late in the game and lost two teeth in the process.

Republic of Ireland U21 global Josh Cullen took a nasty blow to the face in the closing stages of West Ham's draw at Shrewsbury, but he gained praise from boss David Moyes on a day his team-mates failed to fire.

"I see no reason to think it won't be a similar game when we go there and I look forward to that".

"When you come to places like this you have to show yourself physically, that you can battle and compete".

Moyes knew his side had escaped from a game where they created very little in the way of chances of their own, adding: "I don't think we hardly had any attempts at all, one or two maybe but very few".

"They could see I was massively impeded so they got my attention and someone threw me their hat, so I'm grateful for that".

Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst, who has taken Town to second in Sky Bet League One, felt the hosts have had harder games in the league this season. "Shrewsbury were better than us today so I'm pleased to still be in the FA Cup", said Moyes. I don't mean that as being disrespectful to West Ham but I really felt the game was there to be won. The danger is you have all the hype and build-up but then fall flat on your face.
