Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and said, "She not only takes care of Indian citizens but also the NRIs, keeps an eye on problems of NRIs 24×7 with the real-time monitoring system". "At a time when the world is divided by ideologies, India believes in the mantra of "sabka saath, sabka vikas", Modi said as he urged the parliamentarians to spread India's message of inclusiveness.

The PM said that more than half the investment made till now in sectors like construction, air transport, mining, computer software, hardware, electrical equipment has come in the last three years.

Some 140 members of Parliament and mayors of Indian origin from 23 countries are taking part in the two-day event through which the Modi government is hoping to leverage the Indian diaspora, update them on developments taking place in Asia's third-largest economy and give them an opportunity to reconnect with the country of their ancestors. He also spoke about improvements in the "Global Competitiveness Index, Global Innovation Index and Logistics Performance Index", adding that financial institutions like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund as well as rating agencies like Moody's were viewing India in a much more positive light now.

The first Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) Parliamentary Conference was held at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in Delhi's Chanakyapuri on Tuesday. "Reform to Transform is our guiding principle. PIOs (Persons of India Origin) are like permanent ambassadors of India and partners for India's development, who have an important position in the Action Agenda till 2020, drafted by the NITI Aayog". India's jump to 100 in the global ease of doing business ranking is the result of reforms undertaken by the government in the past three years. Foreign institutions like World Bank, Moody's is looking at India positively. Be it Nepal quake or Maldives disaster, we have always tried to achive our humanitarian goals. When crisis struck Yemen, we saved our 4,500 people as well as 2000 from other countries.

Shilpa is mean to Hina
Remember, how she called her a "loser" and a "bhains" during the initial week of Bigg Boss? I want Vikas Gupta to win the show. While Hina and Shilpa are two of the most popular contestants, Vikas is also a tough contender, and has a good fan base.

Describing the gathering of PIOs as a "mini world Parliament", the PM said: "When there is news about how you all are influencing the geo-politics of where you live and how you are making policies, we feel proud". India's humanity even in grave situations like these is a part of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

If any philosophy can counter extremism and radicalisation, it is Mahatma Gandhi's and India's philosophy of non-violence and "satyagraha", he noted. The biggest delegation of 20 MPs has come from Guyana.

Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh said that this first of its kind conference will help in strengthening government's engagement and outreach with the Indian diaspora.
