The Yankees miss out on righthander Gerrit Cole.

The Houston Astros have agreed to a deal for Pittsburgh Pirates ace Gerrit Cole, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Houston tried to get Cole prior to the 2017 trade deadline, but they were unable to do so.

The Yankees had been in trade talks with the Pirates about Cole for several weeks.

If the trade does goes through, the trade would bolster an already-stacked rotation in Houston that includes two-time Cy Young award-winner Justin Verlander and 2015 victor Dallas Keuchel.

Kim later appeared to confirm the event by later commenting on the tweet to say that they were 'praying for her family'. He wrote a passionate Instagram post about how the life changing auto accident taught him to never give up.

Cole, 27, pitched to a 12-12 record with a 4.26 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 33 starts last season.

The Pirates drafted Cole in 2011, using their first overall selection to do so. He has a 3.50 ERA in 127 career starts. He was an all-star in 2015.

Shortly after, FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal, who previously said a deal was "close", appeared to walk back his claim.

The Yankees' rotation now includes Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray and CC Sabathia.
