  • Samsung is Betting Big on the Internet of Things. What Does That Mean For You?

Executives for the electronics giant, speaking at the 2018 CES technology show in Las Vegas on Monday, reconfirmed a vow made two years ago that all of the company's products will be IOT-compatible by 2020-adding that 90% already are as of today. This year, the company has streamlined its software and services to encourage users to stick to Samsung products and use them in a more effective way, notes CNET. This will primarily be done by integrating the company's current offerings under one app that will allow users to take advantage of a seamless connected experience at home, at the office and in their cars. Samsung has been working to make all Samsung products IoT-ready by 2020.

The company also announced its plan to increase adoption of IoT devices through an intelligent platform that is both open and consistent across devices.

This time it will come with Bixby integration through Samsung's developed SmartThings IoT.

At what has become an annual "First Look" event for reporters the evening before the main CES news conferences, Samsung on January 7 introduced an 85-inch Ultra High-Def (UHD) TV that the company said can upscale any content to 8K using AI. "These advancements will help consumers realise the benefits of a seamless and simple connected life".

The new Family Hub can connect to and control third-party devices that are part of the SmartThings smart home ecosystem such as lights, thermostats, home video cameras, and more.

SpaceX defends rocket's performance in secret satellite launch
Commentary during a webcast of the launch appeared to confirm that the fairings housing the payload were successfully deployed. The highly anticipated rocket, which is SpaceX's largest, will take its maiden flight soon after that, she said.

But this year, the Family Hub also gets SmartThings support - Samsung's own Internet of Things ecosystem that works with thousands of other smart home devices.

Samsung will be continuing its Family Hub refrigerator range into 2018, with the addition of new smart features as it comes under attack from the LG Instaview ThinQ rival.

If you're in the market for a refrigerator that can do a little more than just keep your food and beers cold, Samsung has your back with the latest version of its tech-packed Family Hub smart fridge. Your Family Hub refrigerator can look at your refrigerator contents and tell your app what kind of meals you can make, based on the ingredients. Up to four different participants can introduce content or annotate directly on screen at the same time using either their fingers or an embedded pen.

Samsung is going all in on the Internet of things, betting that connected appliances and faster Internet speeds will result in happier customers. With 5G connectivity, Samsung demonstrated its vision for more comfortable driving.

The new dashboard design, along with Bixby, allows drivers to easily control the in-car experience and connected devices at home through voice, touch, gesture and context-based triggers.
