H&M became the center of controversy an advertisement showing a black child model wearing a hoodie that said "coolest monkey in the jungle" was posted to the clothing chain's website. The Weeknd ended his collaboration with them, and social media in general spurned the retailer for the offensive imagery.

Television footage showed clothing in one of the South African stores scattered everywhere, after yesterday's protests.

Police were forced to fire rubber bullets to prevent the scenes escalating.

EFF leader Julius Malema said he doesn't regret taking the action, the South African Broadcasting Corporation reported.

Bernard Joseph, EFF Western Cape chairperson, said they were protesting against H&M, and were hoping to convince H&M management to refrain from portraying their children as monkeys coming from the jungle."We trust that H&M will listen to our demands", he said.
