Time's up for Hollywood harassment, say leading actors

More than 300 Hollywood elite, including Shonda Rhimes, Emma Stone and Reese Witherspoon, have joined forces for Time's Up, a new initiative aiming to fight sexual harassment and assault in the workplace.

This followed a letter of solidarity from 700,000 female Latina farmworkers who expressed their support for those in the entertainment industry who suffered sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace - a reality they said they know "far too well".

Producer Harvey Weinstein became synonymous with sexual harassment after the New York Times exposed his history of predatory behaviour against women in October past year.

A legal defense fund, backed by $13 million in donations, to help less privileged women-like janitors, nurses and workers at farms, factories, restaurants and hotels-protect themselves from sexual misconduct and the fallout from reporting it.

Drafting of legislation to punish companies that tolerate sexual harassment and to discourage nondisclosure agreements in such cases.

Along with helping victims, the campaign calls for more women in positions of leadership and power across industries.

More broadly, Time's Up says it will work to promote diversity in corporate management and help more women and men obtain legal help to hold wrongdoers accountable.

Mahomes became the first Chiefs quarterback drafted by the Chiefs to win game for them since Todd Blackledge in 1987. With the field goal, Butler now hold the Chiefs' record for most points in a season with 142.

Organisers also plan to ask women walking the red carpet at the Golden Globes this year to wear black.

This is a moment of solidarity, not a fashion moment.

"For years, we've sold these awards shows as women, with our gowns and colours and our attractive faces and our glamour", Longoria added. "This time the industry can't expect us to go up and twirl around".

The Time's Up website details and defines what sexual harassment is, and what to do if it happens to you.

A drive to reach gender parity at studios and talent agencies that has already begun making headway.

Witherspoon said that in the past women have been "siloed off from each other". It will be housed and administrated by the National Women's Law Center, and now has more than $13 million in donations.
