"Padman" producer and Akshay's wife Twinkle Khanna shared her photo with a Sanitery pad and challenged Aamir Khan and Shabana Azmi next. The aim is to make menstruation a topic unlike, "Voldemort, (which) is not mentioned", as Twinkle Khanna said in her Oxford address to promote PadMan, which she produces. The trend was popularized by Ice Bucket Challenge that took place amongst the Hollywood community and many big stars did the challenge.

With just a week away from her first production PadMan's release, Twinkle Khanna came up with the "Padman Challenge" asking people to pose with Sanitary napkin in hand. It's natural! Period. #PadManChallenge Copy, Paste this & Challenge your friends to take a photo with a Pad! Yes, that's a pad in my hand an there's nothing to be ashamed about. Arjun Kapoor took up the challenge as he was nominated by Sonam Kapoor to do so and he posted a picture of him with the pad in hand. "Here I am Challenging Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan", Aamir added. Aamir Khan further nominated Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan who have not completed the challenge yet though some other people have.
