  • Devastating: Arsenal to lose Lacazette for 4-6 weeks

Arsenal FC announced today that striker Alexandre Lacazette underwent an arthroscopy on his left knee, and that the surgery will keep him sidelined for a very significant period of time.

The French striker has scored nine goals from 29 appearances in all competitions this season, and now has competition from the former Borussia Dortmund star.

The France global missed a gilt-edged chance in the 90th minute to draw Arsenal level in last Saturday's North London derby against Tottenham.

It was not backed up, however, with Harry Kane scoring the only goal of the game with 49 minutes on the clock to give Spurs a 1-0 victory at the national stadium.

This will likely force the North London side to play with Danny Welbeck, not a great notion when one realises how much they have struggled on the road this season.

The Gunners managed to create some new-found positivity surrounding their top-four challenge earlier this month after Arsenal were 5-1 winners against Everton at The Emirates.

The PGA Tour is heading to Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, this week for the 2018 Genesis Open . Though Tiger played his first tour event as a 16-year-old amateur at Riviera, it's a track on which he has never won.

The Gunners are now languishing in sixth position, eight points behind Chelsea in the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.

However, in making these moves in January Arsene Wenger has sent some mixed messages about his side's priorities for the rest of the season.

For Arsenal to win the final in Lyon on May 16 could still be one hell of a task when you look at the teams competing.

"It's a game we couldn't afford to lose, it makes it much more hard", Wenger said.

The Arsenal fanbase is restless again and I understand why.

Many supporters, pundits and observers alike praised the deal and highlighted how Lacazette was the exact player Arsenal needed as they bid to regain their status as a top four club.
