  • Ahmad Khan Rahimi an Afghan-born U.S. citizen accused of planting bombs in New York and New Jersey appears in Union County Superior Court for a hearing in Elizabeth New Jersey

A federal court in Manhattan sentenced Ahmad Khan Rahimi to life in prison for planting and detonating bombs in the USA states of NY and New Jersey in 2016, the Justice Department said in a statement on Tuesday.

Rahimi, 30, did not express remorse for his crime, the BBC reported, but told the court he did not "harbor hate for anyone".

Berman approved restitution to victims at the sum of $562,803 as proposed by the government.

Chilling surveillance videos played at Rahimi's trial showed pedestrians enjoying a temperate Saturday night before they recoiled in shock and ran for their lives when his pressure-cooker bomb blew up outside a home for the blind and disabled around 8 p.m. September 17, 2016.

"We saw videos", he said, referencing multiple videos at his fall trial that showed Rahimi dragging bombs in two suitcases and a backpack through Manhattan streets, setting one down a half hour before it exploded in the upscale Chelsea neighborhood and another a few blocks away that was discovered and disabled before it could explode. He placed several other explosives nearby in New Jersey, but one failed to detonate and the other was a small pipe bomb that caused no injuries, the Justice Department announced. Police officers also were injured.

Berman handed down the sentence in US District Court in Manhattan, ending the prosecution of Rahimi, who was convicted of the high-profile act of jihad-inspired terrorism that was widely considered a near miss, injuring dozens without killing anyone.

Scotland vs France, Six Nations 2018
By the same token, when they apply it well, as they did just three months ago against Australia, the results can be spectacular. Both Scotland and France hope to register their first wins of this year's Six Nations at Murrayfield on Sunday afternoon.

"My son, he did wrong, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation did the wrong, too", the father added.

Mohammad Rahimi, told NBC New York on Monday that he told the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2014 that he was anxious his son might have been radicalized. "It is not." Rahimi was convicted on October 16, 2017, following a two-week jury trial before U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman, who also imposed today's sentence.

"He has shown no remorse", Crowley said".

"Less than a year-and-a-half after his attacks, Rahimi has now been tried, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison", said U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman. Rahimi shared bomb-making instructions and speeches by terrorist leaders like Osama bin Laden and Anwar al-Awlaki.

"You never apologized to anyone in the courtroom", she said, staring at the bearded Rahimi, who sat at the defense table, shackles on his ankles.
