  • Srinagar CRPF camp attack

The attempted terror bid on the CRPF camp came close on the heels of the Sunjuwan military camp attack, in which seven persons, including six soldiers and a civilian, were killed. Four of them were Kashmiris, while one was from the Jammu region. When he challenged them, they opened fire at them. "Well done boys by neutralising terrorists without collateral damage". Here are the top 10 developments: 1) Gun battle ends with two militants dead: Two holed up LeT militants, involved in a failed terror bid on a CRPF camp in Srinagar, were killed on Tuesday in a almost 30-hour-long gunfight, police said.

Till late in the evening, the exchange of fire continued despite intermittent snowfall. "They were encircled by reinforcements and a gunfight is underway", said a police official. Two policemen were killed in that attack. The terrorists were trying to sneak into the CRPF camp.

A year ago a parliamentary panel had recommended several measures after terror attacks on military establishments in Pathankot, Uri, Nagrota, Pampore and Baramulla, saying the attacks had "exposed the deficiencies of our intelligence agencies". "Nearly four hours later, a contact with terrorists, who were hiding in a partially constructed multi-storey building, was established", he added. Three terrorists were gunned down in the operation.

Yesterday's attempt to attack the CRPF camp comes just two days after a terror attack in Jammu's Sunjuwan army base camp, in which five soldiers and a civilian were killed.

Meanwhile, security forces began a search operation on Tuesday morning in Jammu's Raipur Domana area after Army personnel foiled a suspected militant attack at their camp, PTI reported.

A paramilitary trooper injured in a firefight in the summer capital Srinagar today succumbed as security forces foiled a suicide attack on another security installation in the state in less than 48 hours. What triggered the gunfight was the militants holed up inside an abandoned house in Karan Nagar, in the heart of Srinagar city. The official added that CRPF personnel carried out searches around the periphery of the camp in the snow covered area to determine if the threat was contained, which is when the search party was sacked upon near Gole Market which led to an encounter.

"In the fresh gunfight both the holed up militants were killed and both the bodies along with as many AK-47 assault rifle were recovered", the officer said, adding the search operation in the area is still going.

The army was not involved in the operation, he clarified. "No casualties were suffered by CRPF on Tuesday", said a senior CRPF official, on condition of anonymity.
