  • LeBron James now has the Cavs pointed in the right direction

Sunday afternoon's result at the Garden had fans longing for the past.

LeBron James silenced a Boston Celtics crowd that came to celebrate Paul Pierce, scoring 24 points with 10 assists and eight rebounds to give the new-look Cleveland Cavaliers a 121-99 National Basketball Association victory.

The Cavs outscored the Celtics 33-20 in the second quarter and their momentum of that frame carried over into the second half where they extended their lead to 15 (79-64). It's how they did it. But it's the new additions that would make their mark in a grand fashion.

LeBron James flirted with a triple-double (24 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds) while he led the seven Cavaliers who scored in double figures. Jordan Clarkson and Rodney Hood combined for 32 points on 13-of-22 shooting.

Pierce watched the game from a baseline seat, under the basket where the Celtics scored 42 points in the fourth quarter of Game 6 of the finals to clinch their 17th National Basketball Association championship. Hill hit shots and made things hard for his matchup on defense, Nance is a walking and living embodiment of the Energizer Bunny, Hood feels like a younger version of JR Smith (who suddenly looked like JR Smith again), and Clarkson was everywhere.

In Charlotte, DeMar DeRozan scored a team-high 25 points and CJ Miles came off the bench to score 24 points as the Raptors notched their fifth straight victory with a 123-103 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

LeBron James led the new-look Cavaliers to a blowout in Boston with an individual performance reminiscent of the rivalry's heyday.

But he remained in his baseline seat, awaiting the post-game ceremony that would raise his No. 34 to the TD Garden rafters - the 23rd person in the history of the NBA's most-decorated franchise to be so honoured. From there I think they just dominated the game. It's as small as a sample as we can have.

Hill was the lone starter among them and he wasted no time in showing off his veteran savvy in running the point guard spot for the Cavs. Now the Cavaliers are 33-22, have won three in a row and are six games back of first out east.
