In the Grand Canyon, Arizona, three deaths and over four injuries have been caused in a crash of a tourist helicopter.

FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer earlier said the aircraft sustained considerable damage in the crash. Federal authorities are expected to investigate the incident.

State department of public safety helicopters were at the scene, near Quartermaster Canyon in the Grand Canyon West area.

"First responders had to be flown in and walk to the crash site", he said.

Hualapai Nation Police Chief Francis Bradley said the survivors were airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital as of 2 a.m. Sunday.

The carrier has not commented on the crash at the time of publication. "People died and were horribly injured", he said.

KNXV-TV reported that the helicopter passengers were touring the massive park.
