  • Woman gives birth and leaves note after abandoning infant son in Arizona airport bathroom as authorities ask for public's help in identifying her

The Tucson Airport Authority released footage this week of the woman walking through the airport when the baby was abandoned on January 14, and are looking to find out who she is.

The woman told the custodian she was okay and that she just had her period before she quickly left the restroom, police said. A rental call employee found the boy and a note. Please get me to the authorities so they can find me a good home.

According to KPHO, a note left with the baby says the mother didn't know she was pregnant and is "unable and unfit" to care for the child.

'I just want what's best for him, and it is not me, ' the note reads.

A spokeswoman for the Tucson Airport Authority, Jessie Butler, told the Arizona Republic that they want to interview the mother and what they learn will determine whether or not she is charged. The baby was naked with its eyes closed, Quintana said, but the woman said the baby was three months old and left in a hurried manner. The custodian later found bloody clothes stuffed under paper towels in the trash can.

The baby was then taken to a nearby hospital and is said to be in a healthy condition. The first part of the note appeared to be written from the perspective of the child.

Arizona is a "safe haven" state, meaning parents can drop off newborns at designated locations like staffed fire stations, hospitals, licensed adoption agencies, private welfare agencies and churches. Airport officials are trying to identify the mother, "but we've exhausted our resources", Butler said in a statement.

But since an airport is not a designated location, the woman could face criminal charges. "There is a lot of fear", said Kimberly Marshall, a nurse practitioner and co-founder of the Arizona Safe Baby Haven Foundation.
