  • His West Wing rattled, Trump casts doubt on aide's exit

This fits a pattern with Trump: to side with the men accused of abusing women as long as they maintain their innocence - and however weakly they maintain it.

"The president deplores - he thinks that domestic violence is grotesque, he said that on multiple occasions, and there is no place for it in this country, there is no place for it in this White House, and the president won't stand for it", he said. "Above all, the president supports victims of domestic violence and believes everyone deserves to be treated fairly and with due process".

During the White House press briefing on Monday, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked how people can handle classified information if they do not have a permanent security clearance.

Initially, Mr. Kelly issued a statement last week praising Mr. But their public support for Porter quickly evaporated once a photo surfaced showing one of his ex-wives with a black eye.

"He said that he wishes Porter well and people should have due process", the correspondent pushed on. And they tried to clarify the reaction from Trump, who has yet to offer a sympathetic word to the women who said they had been abused.

Trump spoke well of Porter on Friday, two days after a photo of his former wife was released. On Saturday, Trump tweeted that "lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation".

According to White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah, Kelly was "fully aware" of the allegations against Porter.

Kelly, along with other senior officials, had known about the accusations against Porter for months, according to news reports.

A group of twelve Democratic senators sent a letter Friday to chief of staff John Kelly and White House counsel Don McGahn asking when they first knew of the domestic abuse allegations against Porter by his ex-wives. Kelly told aides he secured the resignation within 40 minutes.

"The President tells me he learned when the rest of us did, the pictures, the police reports, the information provided to the Federal Bureau of Investigation".

Sanders faced a flurry of questions about the White House's handling of Porter, who resigned last week after his ex-wives' accounts were published by the DailyMail.com and The Intercept.

"So ultimately this is the decision of the White House", Christie said. So, while it's easy to see why he feels a disturbing affinity with men like Rob Porter and Roy Moore, it's certainly not easy to stomach.

"The president tells me he learned when the rest of us did", she said, "the pictures, the police reports, the information provided to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, we're all trying to process that".

"In this case, you have contemporaneous police reports, you have women speaking to the Federal Bureau of Investigation under threat of perjury. you have photographs, and when you look at all of that pulled together, Rob Porter did the right thing by resigning", she said.

The media would be better served by doing their job: reporting the facts.

White House aides on Sunday television news shows stressed that Kelly was not in any danger of being ousted from his post.
