What do you think of using your smartphone as a wireless keyboard and mouse?

According to xda-developers, Android P will include support for the Bluetooth HID (Human Interface Design) profile service, which would allow users to turn their phones into a mobile Bluetooth keyboard or mouse. But Android P could make the feature more mainstream by offering support for this feature on all future smartphones and also add the option to use the phone as a keyboard. That patch was committed in December of 2016, however the functionality remained disabled for subsequent Android releases. However, folks at XDA Developers have now discovered two commits (basically, changes) in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for Android P which enable the Bluetooth HID device profile service.

We confirmed ourselves that this Bluetooth HID profile has only recently been added, as a comparison of the supported Bluetooth profiles in Android 8.1 Oreo (branch oreo-mr1-release) versus the latest master shows that the boolean value enabling HIDD has been flipped to true. It was quite the breakthrough, but of course, seemingly never legitimized or supported by Google and the Android team. The report mentions that the relevant APIs of the feature have been un-hidden, suggesting that the Android devices running on Android P will be able to use the feature.

This feature might offer a way to control workplace presentations or could act as a media remote. Google Pixel and Google Pixel 2 will be few of the first devices to get the Android P update and access to the new features.
