Leeds: International Women's Day 2018 Conference on 8th March, which promises to be "A day filled with inspiration, motivation and education".

Take a Selfie visually showing your #PressForProgress Pose to create thunderclap to get IWD and #PressForProgress trending, and the social conversation started. Be it the political arena, the social landscape or the domestic space, International Women's Day seeks to give women equality at all fronts. Last year's theme, #BeBoldforchange was adopted by the USA Women's Hockey Team to rally for equal pay.

Although there is much to celebrate, March 8 is also a day to reflect and to recognise that we have a long journey ahead to realise empowerment, safety and equality for women in the Pacific.

The symposium is being organised in partnership with Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, United Nations Women, United Nations Global Compact, International Finance Corporation, the World Federation of Exchanges, Women in ETFs, and Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ). Women's participation makes peace agreements stronger, societies more resilient and economies more vigorous.

"But there is still more work to be done so that our content reflects the Australian population, so women are equally represented in the stories we tell, the experts we interview and the comedians who make us laugh".

The same "over-estimate" is apparent in the U.S., where people think women will be paid equally with men by 2028, whereas the current rate of progress suggests the gap won't be closed until 2059.

Half the world warned 'Chinese space station will fall on you '
Only one person has ever been recorded as being hit by a piece of space debri and, fortunately, she was not injured. Before that, in 1991, the last uncontrolled return was Salyut 7 - or Cosmos 1686 - weighing 40 tonnes.

Women - young, old, politically engaged or blissfully disinterested in politics - will congratulate me and other women on "our day". Later this spring, we'll finally see a statue of a woman - suffragist leader Millicent Fawcett - unveiled in Parliament Square. The day is observed with a different theme each year and this year, the theme is to #PressforProgress. There are many who question the need for the day in today's changed times. In addition, this year the European Union has the leadership of the "Call to Action for Protection Against Gender-Based Violence", which brings together over 60 countries and organisations striving to ensure that gender-based violence is addressed in humanitarian crises.

The aim of the day was to achieve full Gender equality for women including equal pay but it has not been realized.

Since the early 1990s the number of women admitted as lawyers has exceeded men, but it's only in the past few years that women lawyers have closed the gap. In Nanaimo, women are marching.

What is this year's theme? Yet, on nearly every measure of development, because of deep seated gender inequalities and discrimination, rural women fare worse than rural men or urban women, it said.

This week, we might consider supporting a charity such as Haven Society or the Island Crisis Care Society's More Room for Hope campaign to expand Samaritan House.
