  • Evoni Williams was not too busy to assist a patron. Her actions didn't go unnoticed as she was rewarded for her kindness

Evoni Williams, an 18-year-old waitress at a Waffle House in La Marque, Texas, received a college scholarship after a heartwarming photo of her cutting up an elderly customer's food went viral, Yahoo! news reports.

"I don't know her name but I heard this elderly man tell her his hands don't work too good".

Another customer at a nearby table, Laura Wolf, noticed the heartwarming and posted a photo of the young girl on Facebook.

"He was like, 'My hands are not functioning too well.' He needed me to cut his food". It was then, "without hesitation", that Williams took the plate from the struggling customer, IDed as 78-year-old Adrien Charpentier, and started to cut his meat.

'This may seem small to him, I'm sure it was huge.

The photograph has been liked more than 52,000 times and shared more than 42,000 times.

Even though Evoni was extremely busy, she didn't hesitate.

"When I saw it, it's just something I would do for anybody", Williams, who recently graduated from Texas City High School, told the newspaper Wednesday.

The post even attracted the attention of La Marque city officials and scouts from Texas Southern University-who made a decision to offer Williams a helping hand.

La Marque Mayor Bobby Hocking issued a city proclamation on March 2 to honor Williams. "Kindness is free, folks. We are proud!" the post read. Williams, who says she wants to study business management, was assigned a counselor by Texas Southern University to help her enroll in their program and start her degree. Williams said she is working at Waffle House to save up for college.
