  • Toys 'R' Us preps to liquidate its US operations

Bloomberg reported on Thursday that Toys "R" Us is making preparations for a liquidation of its bankrupt USA operations.

Multiple news organizations have reported that Toys R Us is preparing to liquidate all of its USA stores after it failed to reach an agreement to restructure its business in Chapter 11.

There are two Toys "R" Us locations in Toledo, one on Monroe St. and another on Reynolds Rd.

Toys "R" Us operated 900 stores across the USA and New York City's flagship store in Manhattan closed two years ago.

The remaining stores across the US are making preparations for liquidation.

Toys R Us failed to pull off the juggling act needed to balance a massive debt load while attempting to upgrade its out-of-date stores and improve its e-commerce offerings.

Reuters reported that the retailer will liquidate its operations if its negotiations with creditors do not result in a deal that can help the company get out of bankruptcy.

The company has been shedding sales in large part due to growing competition from online retailers like Amazon.

Much of the stock, it said, would be subject to clearance discounts and other special promotions.

The company entered this year with more than 800 stores in the United States - under both the Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us brands.

Mattel's shares fell 6 percent to $14.96, while those of Hasbro dipped almost 3 percent to $90.75 in early trading.

But beyond the prospect of store refurbishment, any prospective buyer of Toys "R" Us Canada would have to work with skittish vendors and a higher cost base. "You know it's a different vibe when you go inside of the store", says a father as he walked out with toys for his kids.
