  • Valve “jealous of Nintendo” as it prepares to “start shipping games again” – Newell

Speaking at a briefing for Artifact, which is not Half-Life 3, Newell said that the card game is the first of a bunch of new games from Valve.

The announcement came as part of a presentation for Artifact, the "Dota 2" themed card game that drew fan ire a year ago when it was announced because it had the gall to not be "Half Life 3". The marketplace generates a lot of revenue even when the company does nothing, so producing games isn't all that commercially viable compared to simply sitting back and watching the money roll in. Newell's statement doesn't confirm whether the developer has anything lined up after those release, but he did express jealousy at Nintendo's ability to develop both hardware and software simultaneously.

"I spent over an hour playing the game with the team - the three lanes of play add another whole layer of strategy, you have to take down towers in 2 out of 3 to achieve victory". "We thought that the strength of the PC is about its openness, so we started to make some investments to offset that", he said in reference to projects like SteamVR and the Vive headset.

Ottawa invests in private sector leadership to tackle gender equality
This means the average woman in teaching effectively works for free for even longer - more than a quarter of the year, or 97 days. We honor the vital role of women in our communities, businesses , civil society, and government.

Newell gave some background on Valve's projects from the last few years, like SteamVR and the Vive headset, explaining that the company was anxious about the PC heading in the direction of an iPhone-esque closed ecosystem. New skins, amiibo, and other peripherals to continue the hype of series that we love so much.

For the last decade or so Valve has focused on their online gaming and software store, Steam as well as making hardware for PC gaming.

"We've always been a little bit jealous of companies like Nintendo". We can design chips if we need to, we can do industrial design, and so on. Newell says we can expect the company to start creating experiences tailored to new hardware based on the knowledge they've earned creating new inputs (like the Steam controller). "So that is something we've been jealous of, and that's something that you'll see us taking advantage of subsequently". And he can make the hardware look as good as possible because he's designing the software at the same time.
