In 2013, Hanna told her farmer parents, from Victoria's Swan Hill, that she had been diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, and that she was not responding to treatment and both Peter MacCallum and Epworth hospitals.

Melbourne Magistrates Court heard that Hanna Dickenson was partying hard and needed money to live a party lifestyle, involving drugs, alcohol, and worldwide holidays.

Australian 24-year-old Hanna Dickenson has been sentenced to jail for fraud after telling her parents she needed 40,000 Australian dollars (about $31,000) to pay for overseas cancer treatment when she didn't even have the disease.

Melbourne Magistrates' Court was told that one person donated almost £5,500 after he was discharged from hospital following his own cancer treatment. Dickenson will spend three months in prison, followed by a 12-month community corrections order, and 150 hours of community service, in addition to seeking treatment for both substance abuse and mental health.

The lawyer argued that her actions should be excused because "she hasn't engaged in this behavior for three years, she's been a model worker ... she's turned her life around, she's proven that".

Magistrate David Starvaggi said Dickenson had;engaged in conduct that tears at the very heartstrings of human nature'.

The deception was discovered when two donors saw images Dickenson posted on Facebook and contacted the police, according to The Telegraph.

Lindsay said she'll likely appeal her client's sentence. Instead, she sent the money to a man she met online. Further, she will forfeit her job as property manager at Little Real Estate in Melbourne.
