  • Donkey Kong Record Holder Billy Mitchell is Stripped of High Score and Banned

The most famous change is undoubtedly the top spot on the Donkey Kong leaderboards.

Now one of the biggest controversies that had been raised was that Mitchell had been setting scores on Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. on a MAME board, which means he wasn't actually playing the original game but a one modified to modern standards, merely emulated.

Mitchell, Wiebe and Guinness did not immediately respond to a request for comment. There are strict rules surrounding Donkey Kong records, which state that high scores only count if they are achieved on the original Donkey Kong arcade game hardware.

Legendary video arcade games player Billy Mitchell will be wiped from the gaming industry's official list of record high scores. That's right, he cheated.

Twin Galaxies member Jeremy Young (@xelnia) brought the issue to attention by filing a dispute against the validity of Mitchell's scores, which prompted an in-depth investigation into Mitchell's score submissions, including a technical analysis of video feeds and screenshots. For scores to be verified and accepted by Twin Galaxies, all scores must be achieved on original hardware, and until very recently, it was believed that Mitchell had produced his scores legitimately.

Sri Reddy - The Recent Sensation For Various Reasons!
Other film personalities against whom Sri Reddy raised allegations include Allu Arjun, Nani and director of "Fida" Sekhar Kammula. Though the actress did not name Abhiram initially, she revealed that it was he who had cheated her later in the discussion.

We say "former" because the organization has officially stripped the King of Kong star of all his high scores in its database, including a longstanding score of 1,062,800 points in Donkey Kong, and also banned him from participating in the organization's competitive leaderboards. "According to our findings, Steve Wiebe would be the official 1st million point record holder". Mitchell came off as smug and generally unlikeable, whereas Wiebe was portrayed as a guy you could get behind and root for.

The ban has no effect on the current world record in Donkey Kong, which now sits at the 1.247 million points set by Robbie Lakeman in February. But, Twin Galaxies puts the score up anyway, sending Steve Wiebe home packing. Many are wondering how one could cheat at an arcade game, something that Mitchell was able to do years ago.

Anyone looking into their own past with honesty and a desire to improve will likely find things potentially messy and uncomfortable. As we all have learned, this can not occur overnight and must be a step-by-step process.

It is very straightforward for anyone to check the authenticity of the 1,047,200 performance source tape by just cross-referencing the digital capture video of the performance that has been posted in this dispute thread with the very public "King of Kong" movie gameplay footage along with its DVD extras.

We must repeat, the truth is the priority.
