Countering Amazon's Echo line of smart speakers, Google today introduced its Google Home and Home Mini in India. The company had also listed both the speakers on Flipkart with the tagline "Intelligence meets comfort".

Rishi Chandra, VP of Product Management and General Manager of Home Products, Google, during the launch even said "We are delighted to bring our best-in-class Home products to India".

I'm particularly interested in the fact that the speaker is now officially available in India, as it paves the way for integrations with a flurry of local services. It can project 360-degree sound, but you can also connect it to any Cast-enabled speaker wirelessly. Both the products are exclusive to Flipkart, and they will be available across 750 offline stores in the country. "Combining smart technology to match the lifestyle needs of our users through Deezer Flow, it's never been easier to listen to all your favourite tracks and discover new music". Users can now use Google Home devices to initiate hands-free calling from their numbers.

ZTE Iceberg one-ups the notch trend by using two notches
The first notch appears at the top, like you'd expect, and contains a speaker, front-facing camera, and ambient light sensor. Apart from the double chin, the rounded corners are square-ized outwards with glass panel extended from the display.

Google Home Mini will be available in two colours - chalk and charcoal with Coral coming soon. The smart speaker space is quite nascent in India with only Amazon offering competition with its Echo lineup of speakers, which have been selling since November previous year. The Amazon Echo is priced at Rs. 9,999 as well. Google Home lets you do ton of things using your voice like playing the music, get answers to questions, manage tasks around the house, and even adjust the thermostat or lights. Needless to say, what powers the Google Home and Home Mini is the Google Assistant AI.

Google Home and Home Mini also provide Chromecast support. Google Home also works with YouTube. The Google Home was launched back in 2016 alongside the first-gen Pixel smartphones, whereas, the Google Home Mini was launched a year ago in October alongside the second-gen Pixel smartphones. It comes in a cylindrical form factor measuring 233.4 x 96.3 x 142.7 mm in dimensions. It also comes with six months free access to Google Play music. Unlike SIRI, Google Assistant is heavily contextual and it communicates with the app on your behalf instead of just leading you to the app. Both the devices were previously launched in the USA and some other markets during Google's annual I/O event in 2016 and 2017. A broadcast feature triggers the routines in all the Google Home speakers in the home.
