"When the prime minister sleeps, Congress has to do the job of waking him up".

Congress president raised the Beti Bachao slogan to showcase the large number of rapes, molestations, and attacks on college girls and working women in public transport, domestic violence, and police stations.

He said problems and issues pertaining to the common man are not being addressed and people are facing real hardships due to lack of administration.

"Join me in a silent, peaceful, candlelight vigil at India Gate at midnight tonight to protest this violence and demand justice", he said on his twitter handle before the protest. "The women of the country should feel safe", he said.

Several people were seen having brought their children as well, but at times, the chaotic crowd appeared getting out of control and Priyanka Vadra was shoved by some, prompting her to ask people to maintain calm and remember the "cause" for which they had come there.

"Mr Prime Minister, your silence is unacceptable. 1".

The party also accused the BJP party of shielding Uttar Pradesh legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who on Thursday was formally charged with raping a 17-year-old girl in Unnao district.

She was sedated and repeatedly raped before her head was smashed and her body thrown in the forests next to Rasana village.

After filing of the case, her father was booked by the police under the arms act on April 3 this year and put in jail on April 5. Fighting for justice without success, the rape survivor attempted suicide in front of the residence of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, bringing her incident into the spotlight.
