World number 95 Pernilla Lindberg won her first major by beating South Korea's Inbee Park in an epic eight-hole play-off at the ANA Inspiration in California.

Inbee Park and Pernilla Lindberg will return to complete their play-off on Monday after the pair could not be separated after four additional holes at the ANA Inspiration.

Both players found the green in two when they returned to the par-four 10th, where Lindberg drained a 25-footer for victory and Park failed to convert her birdie chance to extend the contest.

The 31-year-old Swede shot a 2-under 70 on another hot and mostly calm day at Mission Hills, pulling away when playing partner Sung Hyun Park collapsed on the back nine.

After Song bowed out a hole later with a par, the two survivors returned to the 18th one more time and both managed nervy pars in nearly total darkness, though lights surrounding the green provided some vision.

In the third playoff hole Park & Lindberg both birdied while Song went par to have it come down to Park and Lindberg on the 4th playoff.

Lindberg's victory was her first on the LPGA Tour - only the fifth time a player has made the ANA Inspiration their maiden triumph. "It felt like too big a dream to come true but it has. But I'm a little bit disappointed, but I'm really happy the way I played this week". "I'm excited to be in the position that I'm in and just give myself a learning opportunity". Song closed with a 5-under-par 67 on Sunday. "So to even have a chance to go out and beat her in a playoff, I think I'm going to sleep great tonight, and I'm going to be ready to go in the morning".

The data appears to have been stolen using software implanted into the cash register systems at the affected stores. Yahoo, retailer Target and credit bureau Equifax are among those also having reported data breaches in recent years.

Park and Song had putts to win on the first two extra holes. "I probably should have made the birdie on No. 18, but it just didn't happen". On the second playoff hole, Park, standing 150 yards from the hole, almost put her third shot into the water in front of the green.

"I'm kind of speechless thinking about it", Lindberg said.

"I dreamt of this moment ever since I was a kid".

Lindberg became the fourth player to win wire-to-wire at the ANA, joining Pat Bradley, Betsy King and Pat Hurst.

Holding the lead entering play Sunday, Lindberg bogeyed two of her first three holes. "So, I really don't have much of a shot".

"The putt that Pernilla made on the last was a champion's putt". And Lindberg, in the final group, hit her approach shot to three feet to make it a three-way playoff. She also had never won on the Symetra or LET tours, spanning a total of 250 professional events.

At 14 under par, Ariya Jutanugarn and Jessica Korda tied for fourth place to round out the top five.
