SANTA MONICA, CA - MARCH 15: Actor Harry Anderson attends 13th Annual People's Choice Awards on March 15, 1987 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California.

"This morning at 6:41 a.m. the Asheville Police Department responded to the home of actor Harry Anderson where he was found deceased", the Asheville Police Department told the Hollywood Reporter.

The American actor was found dead at his home in Asheville, North Carolina, yesterday, police say.

His passing was confirmed by his son Dashiell, who confirmed to TMZ his father passed away of natural causes on Monday. For a man who got his start in TV with a guest spot on Saturday Night Live, he went a long way, and he will be missed.

"I was never really an actor", he said.

Harry Anderson was estimated to be worth $10million (£7million), according to Celebrity Net Worth.

However, it was his starring role as Judge Harry T. Stone on NBC's Night Court that made Anderson a household name. If you're now in the mood to relive some of Harry Anderson's most wonderful moments during his years on Night Court, the full series (and individual seasons and episodes) are available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon.

He then moved to San Francisco in 1969 to earn money as a street magician at the age of 17.

"'Cheers' was my first acting job, but it was basically the character I had developed on the street", he said. "That's how I made my living, hustling drinks in bars and quarters on the street".

Anderson is also well-known for his role as Richie Tozier in the 1990 Tommy Lee Wallace miniseries It. He also starred in the 1990s sitcom "Dave's World", based on the life of Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Dave Barry.
