Demonstrators gathered in major cities across Iraq on Sunday to protest US -led airstrikes against Syria in protests called for by Muqtada al-Sadr, the influential Shiite cleric who led the Mehdi Army that fought USA forces after the toppling of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003.

"We know that it is now up to Bashar al-Assad on whether he's going to use chemical weapons again and should he use it again, the President has made it very clear that the United States is locked and loaded and ready to go".

Mr Corbyn, who has warned of an escalation in a "proxy war" between the U.S. and Russian Federation, said he would only consider backing intervention in Syria with the support of the United Nations.

Mr Trump has also defended his use of the phrase "Mission Accomplished" to describe the US-led missile attack on Syria's chemical weapons program.

Peskov said only that Russian Federation was against "groundless" accusations about who was responsible for the attack. While the Russians continue to support these heinous war crimes, the Syrian regime continues to violate its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention and the UN's Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Sunday morning, the president was back on Twitter defending the tweet. "I pray for the safety of our courageous men and women serving in uniform as they carry out this mission".

Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White insisted: "We met our objectives. That's what the president is referring to", she said.

"The repeated and morally reprehensible use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime in the past has been confirmed by independent global investigators".

France is urging Russian Federation to join a push for a political solution in Syria after joint US, French and British attacks on Syrian chemical weapons sites.

Trump tweets "Mission Accomplished!" after Syria bombing
The US is "locked and loaded" if Syria uses chemical weapons again, America's United Nations envoy Nikki Haley said today. Prof Gillespie says the USA and its allies could have taken a different approach like imposing sanctions.

Some have claimed that Trump chose the timing of the airstrike to dominate the weekend news cycle and distract attention from the charges against him in the new book by fired FBI Director James B. Comey. "And if that happens to be a U.S. warship and they sink it, I don't' want to think about what's going to happen".

"I'm sure this strike, which was a tactical and surgical success, has been a setback" for the Assad regime, Brennan said. "We hope that will be the case".

The council failed on Tuesday to approve three draft resolutions on chemical weapons attacks in Syria.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) sounded a similar note of caution on ABC's "This Week" and called for a broader strategy.

"We are determined to completely crush [the Islamic State extremist group] and create the conditions that will prevent its return", she said. "That does not, however, solve the problem".

Damascus and Moscow have vehemently denied that any chemical weapons were used in Douma and alleged instead that grim videos showing civilians foaming at the mouth after the attack were staged.

The UK's National Cyber Security Center said Monday that the threat of a cyber-attack against Britain is now "at its highest possible level".

"We can not allow the use of chemical weapons to become normalized, either within Syria, on the streets of the United Kingdom, or elsewhere", May said - linking the chemical attack in Syria with the poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter last month with a military-grade nerve agent in the English city of Salisbury. Nuseir said a gas cylinder was found leaking the poison gas, adding that he didn't think it was dropped from the air because it still looked intact.

On Sunday, Ms Haley made clear the United States would not be pulling troops out of Syria right away, saying U.S. involvement there "is not done". She also did not directly answer a question about chemical weapons as a "red line" when Assad has slaughtered thousands of civilians with conventional arms.
