SpaceX, which is owned by engineering mogul Elon Musk, had previously used part of the Falcon 9 in an August 2017 launch and the Dragon in an April 2016 launch.

The Titusville Police Department said in a news release the "violent collision" happened just after 6 p.m. on State Road 405, as Adam P. Stephenson, 30, of Bristol, England, was making a U-turn into the path of an eastbound black Ford F-250 pickup truck.

SpaceX has combined a recycled Dragon and a recycled Falcon once before.

"Falcon 9 is on its way", a SpaceX commentator said as the white rocket surged skyward over Cape Canaveral, Florida at 4:30 pm.

NASA launch teams have kicked-off what will be a busy month for the Space Coast with Monday's liftoff of SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral.

SpaceX has successfully recovered 23 first stage boosters to date, 11 on land and the rest on off-shore droneships. While the booster stuck an upright landing at SpaceX's "Landing Zone 1" at Cape Canaveral after its first launch, SpaceX did not attempt to land the booster today.

"What's really neat about this is this is becoming the norm, and we like that". The Expedition 55 crew is preparing for its arrival on Wednesday while continuing a variety of advanced space research aboard the orbital lab today.

As the spacecraft approaches the ISS, Japanese astronaut Norishige Kanai and NASA astronaut Scott Tingle will use the station's Canadarm2 robotic arm to grapple the spacecraft and tug it to the Harmony module, NASA officials said in a statement. In the statement released Thursday, the FCC said it was the first approval of "a USA -licensed satellite constellation to provide broadband services using a new generation of Low Earth Orbit satellite technologies".

A few minutes after takeoff, the first stage engines cut off, having carried Dragon out of the Earth's atmosphere.

The capsule is packed with about 5,800 pounds (2,600Kg) of food and science experiments, including one to study thunderstorms and another to test drug development in space.

The capsule will be transporting NASA's old Robonaut 2, a humanoid robot in need of repairs, which the space agency hopes to fix before relaunching back to the station. These projects range from a test bed for growing plants to the new Veggie PONDS experiment for passive nutrient delivery.
